Five tips for e-commerce businesses
Written by Nicole Kastner, Founder of Australian School Mums
As we swing into July, many e-commerce businesses are heading into their busiest time of the year. This can lead to equal parts excitement and chaos - depending on how organised you are!
Here are 5 things you can do now to make 2024 your best year yet.
1. Identify promotion opportunities
Decide now which promotions you want to get involved in for the rest of the year. There are many to choose from including Black Friday, Cyber Monday, 12 Days of Christmas, Gift Guides.
Tip: you don’t need to be everywhere! Select one or two and make those your priority.
2. Prepare for the selected promotions
Ensure you have adequate stock levels, and consider the actual promotion you are offering.
Tip: try to focus on adding value with bundles rather than discounting products with the aim of increasing your average order.
3. Create your timeline
Create a realistic timeline for each promotion so that all assets are ready to go live. These could be landing pages, EDMs, website banners and social media posts.
Tip: schedule these in advance so you can avoid any pressure when launching.
4. Fine-tune checkout process
Optimise your customer checkout process so it’s as smooth as possible. Review your checkout options, payment gateways and mobile compatibility.
Tip: set up or review your abandonment cart flow to re-capture potential customers.
5. Update website
Audit and update your website. Check your loading speed, usability and security. Review your navigation set up and ensure all images are of high quality with testimonials posted throughout the site to add credibility.
Tip: have a friend go through the process of completing a purchase and providing feedback along the way.
